Infrared imaging or Thermography is a cutting edge
technology that utilizes non visible wavelength energy
(Infrared) converted to a Thermogram or thermo picture.
Thermography means “writing with heat”, just like
photography means “writing with light”. The picture that
is generated by the infra red camera is called a thermal
image.
Due
to the high cost of infrared technology, its use has been
limited to military and industrial applications where the
high cost of the technology can be justified by perceived
high payback. More recently, the technology is being used
in medical, surveillance and search and rescue
applications.
The
HMR GROUP not only offers this amazing capability
to the traditional users of the technology;
Industry, Utilities, commercial occupancies, but now
to the residential market.
There are many valuable infrared imaging applications for
the home owner specifically to identify areas of thermal
weakness in a building, validate moisture intrusion
problems, identify air leaks etc. The use of infrared can
drastically reduce the size of the haystack when looking
for the problem needle.
These pictures are the same building.
Left is a regular photo. Right, the IR thermogram is
taken from a slightly different angle. The red colours
show the areas of thermal weakness (heat loss).
The left picture is of a
kitchen electrical outlet on an outside wall. The right
picture, (Thermogram) shows very cold air (the black
colour) infiltrating the building through the outlet.
